What A public/private partnership of government, large employers, and educational institutions to reduce transportation-related emissions.
Purpose To achieve a healthier future and promote economic vitality for North Texas, through the reduction of air pollution due to transportation-related emissions.
Collectively, large-scale reductions in transportation-related pollution among Partners in the Compact have the potential to significantly reduce emissions that negatively affect human health. In addition, reducing emissions helps to lessen the burden of costs to the public and private industry and prepare our region as we move from non-attainment designation to ‘SEVERE’ by the EPA.
The Partners’ reductions can be achieved by actions such as:
- Fleet electrification
- Encouraging the transition of employees to electric vehicles by providing workplace charging and programs to promote access to electric vehicles
- Reducing employee travel through telecommuting and other strategies to reduce vehicle miles traveled in single occupancy vehicles
- Conducting a greenhouse gas inventory, in order to be better informed
Projected Partner Benefits
- Reduction in greenhouse gas, which contributes to ambient levels of air toxins that can cause noncancerous health effects
- Better positions the region to compete for federal alternative fuel funding in the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act
- Connection to resources to advise on fleet transitions, including financial strategies and procurement programs
- Long-term financial savings by reducing fleet fuel and maintenance cost
- Transportation-related cost savings for employees
- Organizational branding of the Partner's sustainability focus
- Cooperation and information exchange with other Partners
- Potential monetization of collective emissions reductions; sharing of proceeds subject to future contractual/legal agreements
